Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!
The party was at my brother’s house. They’re still waiting for the new table, but we manage to have a lovely Christmas look anyway. You can learn how to do the poinsettia here and here.
Abbiamo festeggiato a casa di mio fratello. Sono ancora in attesa del nuovo tavolo, ma siamo riusciti comunque ad ottenere un delizioso aspetto natalizio. Potete imparare a fare le stelle di natale qui e qui.
Are you done with the gifts, or do you need some help for those last-minute presents you forgot? Are you ready with decorations, cards, gift wrapping?
Then you are ready to play your Christmas playlist. Sure, you can buy Bublé and go with that, but where’s the fun? I pick my songs every year and, apart for some classic Christmas songs, I usually add some non-Chistmas songs that are perfect for Christmas day, because they talk about love, cold, snow, hope and marshmallows.
Siete a posto con i regali, o avete bisogno di un po’ d’aiuto per quei pensieri dell’ultimo giorno che avevate dimenticato? Siete pronti con le decorazioni, biglietti, pacchetti?
Allora siete pronti per suonare la vostra playlist natalizia. Certo, potreste comprare il cd di Bublé e farlo andare, ma dov’è il divertimento? Scelgo le mie canzoni ogni anno e, in aggiunta ad alcuni classici natalizi, aggiungo sempre alcune canzoni non natalizie, ma perfette per il giorno di Natale, perché parlano d’amore, di freddo, di neve, di speranza e di marshmallow.

7. Frank Sinatra – Everything, because he is Frank Sinatra (Christmas bonus: Every Christmas song He Performed, because he is Frank Sinatra).
8. Bruce Springsteen – Shenandoah, because his whole Seeger Sessions’ album can be perfect for Christmas (Christmas bonus: I’d say his version of Santa Claus is coming to town, but the truth is that my favorite version of it is Sinatra’s).
9. Chris Cornell – Ave Maria. Have you ever thought of having Chris Cornell in a Christmas playlist? Well here he is, and he rules it.
10. Joni Mitchell – River, a sad Jingle Bells. (Christmas bonus: Billy Idol – Jingle Bells Rock)
11. Josh Groban – Smile, because this song is moving in every cover, but Josh Groban has a lot of Christmas bonuses (es. O Come All Ye Faithful, or What child is this)
12. U2 – Mother of the disappeared, because we have lights and carols but out there someone is missing.
13. John Lennon – Give peace a chance, a surreal lullabye to sing altogether, good and bad voices (Chistmas bonus: John Lennon – Happy Xmas)
14. Tom Waits – Somewhere because yes, Barbra Streisand is Barbra Streisand, but Tom Waits is basically a rough Dickens telling you that there is, maybe, a place for us somewhere, even without money and hope and shoes and well, somehow, somewhere it’s Christmas.
15. Sting – Russians, because when I was I child I didn’t understand English language and neither my mother, and to us the music was so festive that it still has its power on Christmas time (Christmas bonus: Sting – There is no rose of such virtue)
16. Stevie Wonder – Blowin’ in the wind, because Bob Dylan can be gentle with Stevie Wonder’s voice (Christmas bonus: Bob Dylan has actually done a Christmas album)

I also created some napkin holders with red poinsettias. Follow the tutorial to create the flower. This is the template for the leaves. You can glue them togheter and just stop here if you only need a poinsettia placecard. However, if you want to create the napkin holder, you will need some felt: I chose a green one, but white can be an elegant alternative.
Ho poi creato dei portatovaglioli con delle stelle di Natale rosse. Seguite semplicemente il tutorial per creare il fiore. Qui sotto, poi, trovate il template per le foglie. Incollatele al fiore e fermatevi lì se desiderate soltanto un segnaposto. Se invece volete creare il portatovagliolo avrete bisogno di feltro: io ho scelto un panno verde, ma il bianco può essere un’elegante alternativa.
Cut some squares (about 5×5 inches) and then make two diagonal cuts: something like these, but the lenght and position depends on the napkin you want to insert.
Tagliate dei quadrati di circa 12.5×12.5 cm, e praticate poi due tagli diagonali come nell’esempio, ma la lunghezza e posizione dipendono dal tovagliolo che vorrete inserire.
Now you can glue the flower to the felt square. Ora potete incollare il fiore al quadrato di feltro.
Write, or print, the name of each guest on the leaves for a personal touch. Everyone will be delighted to take home with them this sweet memory of your Christmas together.

A super-easy tutorial because sometimes you can’t find a design you like, or you need a quick homemade present for someone (I’m preparing precious burlap gift bags for everyone with small and homemade gifts this year) and you don’t have the time to entirely diy a sweet Christmas notepad. This is how I customize them.
Un tutorial semplicissimo per quando proprio non si riesce a trovare una copertina che ci piaccia, o per quando avete bisogno di un veloce pensiero fatto in casa per qualcuno (quest’anno sto preparando delle deliziose borsette di tela ruvida con piccoli doni fatti a mano), senza avere anche il tempo necessario per creare un bloc notes da zero. Ecco come li personalizzo.
– Choose the paper that you would like to replace the cover with – in case you don’t have one, I’m giving you the pattern I used for my notepads.
– Line one side and the bottom of the paper with your notepad, marking the backside of your scrapbook paper.
– Cut along the guideline.
– Tear off the notepad cover carefully. It should be easy to peel off, but we don’t want to tear the flap off with it.
– Attach the new cover by gluing the notepad flap down on it, and cut the exceeding paper. If you prefer, you can cover the flap with duct tape in another color.
– Scegliete la carta con cui sostituire la copertina – nel caso non ne abbiate una, posterò qui sotto quella che ho usato per i miei blocchetti.
– Allineate un angolo della carta con il blocchetto, segnando le misure del blocchetto sul retro della carta.
– Tagliate lungo le linee.
– Strappate con cautela la copertina del bloc notes. Dovrebbe essere facile da togliere, ma dovete stare attenti a non togliere anche l’aletta sopra.
– Incollate la nuova copertina incollando l’aletta superiore e premendola sulla carta, per poi tagliare la parte in eccedenza. Qualora vogliate, potete coprire l’aletta superiore con del nastro telato di un altro colore.

Last year I created some paper poinsettias for my Christmas presents. I loved so much the result that I decided to work on it again for this Christmas, and I made two different kinds of poinsettias: the white ones were for my Christmas tree, and the red ones were for my Christmas table (see them here). Today I am going to share both the tutorial and the printable template.
L’anno scorso ho creato delle stelle di Natale di carta per i miei pacchetti natalizi. Le ho amate così tanto che ho deciso di lavorarci di nuovo quest’anno, e ho creato due diversi tipi di stella di Natale: quelle bianche sono per addobbare l’albero, e quelle rosse per la mia tavola di Natale (le potete vedere qui). Oggi condividerò sia il tutorial che il template da stampare.
– Print the template on a weighted, red or white, paper.
– Cut out the flowers following the lines.
– Fold the petals of the two larger flowers in half.
– Curl the petals of the two smaller flowers with a pen or a pencil.
– Glue the flowers at the center, from the larger to the smaller.
You can now glue the center of your flower: I used a Christmas ornament, the necklaces you put on your tree, cutting three or four pearls at time.
And it is ready!
– Stampate il template su carta spessa, rossa o bianca.
– Ritagliate i fiori seguendo le linee.
– Piegate a metà i petali dei due fiori più grandi.
– Curvate con l’aiuto di una penna o di una matita i petali dei due fiori più piccoli.
– Incollate i fiori al centro, dal più grande al più piccolo.
Potete ora incollare il centro del vostro fiore: ho usato una delle collane da mettere sull’albero di Natale, tagliando tre o quattro perle alla volta.
Ed è pronta!

As much as I love digital images, there is something precious about paper. Turning your favorite photos of the year into tree ornaments can be a lovely (and easy) tradition, or a sweet gift. This is one of my last Christmas’ photo ornaments, with a picture from my brother’s wedding.
Per quanto io ami le immagini digitali, c’è qualcosa di prezioso nella carta. Trasformare le foto preferite dell’anno appena trascorso in ornamenti per l’albero di Natale è una tradizione deliziosa (e facile), o un dolce regalo per qualcuno che amiamo. Questa è una delle mie palline dell’anno scorso, con una fotografia dal matrimonio di mio fratello.

Again, why waste money and time on boring Christmas tags that look like thousands of others, when you can print out yours and attach them with a ribbon to the presents, or hang them as decorations on the Christmas tree? Not only will you save money (and time), they’ll also add a personal handmade, heartfelt touch to your gift: showing someone, even with small things, that you care isn’t really what Christmas is about? These printable tags can be printed on normal computer paper if you wish but I really suggest printing them on card stock.
E di nuovo, perché sprecare tempo e denaro per etichette natalizie banali, uguali a migliaia di altre, quando potete stamparle comodamente al pc e legarle con un bel nastro ai regali di Natale, oppure appenderle come decorazioni all’albero? Oltre a risparmiare, aggiungerete un tocco personale e sentito ai vostri regali: mostrare a qualcuno, anche con piccoli gesti, che ci tenete non è forse il significato più vero del Natale? Queste etichette chiudipacco possono essere stampate su carta normale se preferite, ma suggerisco di stamparle su cartoncino.
